Computer games

There are many sorts of games. My favorite game sort is strategies. Why? Firstly, in strategies when you play, you can become a general and lead your army in to battles. Secondly, some games' characters can teach new experience and improve War skills to use them in the future battles. For example, in action games there are reflecting such stories like World War1 or World War 2 and so on… What is more, RPG style games are more popular in the Internet. In the RPG you can start the game like a rustic, and in the end of game you can be a strong wizard or priest… All in all, as I say, there are many sorts of games. Also I think everyone who plays computer games learn something. For example: strategy, histor, English and so on…

Lithuania in European Union

European Union was founded 50 years ago. At first 3 countries, G. Britain, France and Germany, aligned because they wanted to develop safely. Now European Union consists of 27 European countries that seek to improve their economy and policy. Lithuania entered EU on purpose to raise economy and peacefully relate with all EU countries. Lithuanian national economics gets support from EU foundation. It helps to reform agriculture, education, industry…. Now we can live, study and work in all EU countries. We can travel to every country, learn languages, and know cultures and traditions. In addition, schools participate in international interchange. Lithuania has many commitments, for example: to guard external EU border, to participate in economical, social and peace maintenance organizations, etc. In my opinion, to join in EU was worth because Lithuania and Europe got opportunity to develop equally.

My Neighbourhood

Although Dieveniškės is a village and it is old, the countryside there is very nice and people are friendly. First, there is Dieveniškės Historic Regional Park. It was created to preserve landscape of cultural and nature’s objects, the features of ancient Lithuanian culture, to operate and manage recreational and economical reserves. Total area of the park is 8794 ha. In park there are nice reserves. One of the biggest is The Gauja landscape and zoological reserve (516 ha). The purpose of the regional park is to preserve flat and wide valleys, the riverbed of the river Gauja and vegetation of pine forests with insects’, which are characteristic in South Lithuania. The Gauja is not very wide, but it is very meandrous. In Kalviai, there is the Gauja educational track. There is much information to know more about our village nature. It is beautiful place to spend time with friends or family. On the other hand, the people in Dieveniškės are very friendly and hearty. If something happens, they will always help. They accept visitors kindly. In my vicinity there are many cultural and natural objects, which are wonderful place to visit.

Lithuanian cinematography

Many of us like film watching, but a few knows about our country cinematography. The history of Lithuanian cinema falls into two distinct periods – soviet and post-soviet. Before Lithuania broke off from the Soviet Union in 1990, filmmaking in Lithuania was financed from Soviey Union. Until 1990, Lithuania produced seven feature films, 40 documentaries and two animation films. After 1990 in Lithuania has started cinema revoliution. In private companies there were made 18 full-length features, 24 short features and 137 documentary films. In LFS (Lithuanian Film Studio) 9 full-length features, 3 short features and 65 documentaries films were produced. Diana and Kornelijus Matuzevičiai, Rimantas Gruodis, Henrikas Šablebvičius are artistic direktors, who resound our country in film festivals. National cinema is very important to all countries, because it is a cultural property, which is protected by all European countries.

Cinema

I enjoy film watching and I can often watch them on television or on my computer, but it’s really shame, that I only sometimes can watch films in cinema. To begin with, film watching for me is very necessary; it spreads my imagination and leaves impression for long time. Film watching takes a lot of time in my free time, because I watch films every weekend and sometimes on work day evenings. I think that film watching on computer, DVD player or in the cinema is better, than on TV, because on TV there are older films than in cinema. It’s really shame that in our small town and in the nearest town there is no cinema. The nearest cinema is in the capital city and it is really far from our village, but one thing is good, that I can watch films at home and it is as cinema for me.

Welcome to my house

My house is the place, where I feel very good. Although it’s not so big, a family sized house in a village, I like it. It has got a front and back gardens. There we grow different kind of apple trees, pear trees, currants, cherry trees and plum trees. Also, there are some flowers beds in the yard. In summertime there blossom many colored flowers. Now lets go inside. There are three rooms and a kitchen in the house. Lets start from my room. It’s little, but cozy. There is a very comfortable bed, where sleeps my dog and, of course, me. Also there is a desk, a bookshelf and a wardrobe in my room. The CD player, computer and TV are my relaxation. I am so used to them, that I can’t do anything without music or TV, even my homework. In our house the kitchen is the main room, where gather all family. My mum spends there a long time, but her food is worth that. I cook just seldom. I like baking cakes, doing cocktails or other desserts. Our kitchen is colourful and homelike. There are usual devices in the kitchen: a toaster, a cooker, a refrigerator, a microwave, a kettle, a sandwich toaster, a blender… Also there is some furniture, such as a table, chairs, cupboards… My most used appliences are cooker, microwave, sandwich toaster and kettle. And now the time is ripe for living room. In this room we always watch TV or do other things together. We sit on the sofa or armchair opposite TV, watch it and drink tea. In the living room there is a big shelf with lots of books. There are some other devices, witch help in household: a wash machine, an iron, a vacuum cleaner, a fan… Without them it would be hard to manage at home. Our verandah is glazed. There stands a sofa, a table and two chairs. Pictures and carpet add coziness. In summer I like to lie on the sofa and read books in the verandah. This is my house! It’s my fortress! It would be great for everyone to have their homes, sweat homes…

My family relationship

My family relationship Family is the best thing I have in my life, even though it sometimes does not understand me. My family consists of my mother, father, brother and, of course, me. With every family member I agree almost very well. With mum I talk almost about everything. We usually drink tea together and talk. The relationship with brother is not very good, but sometimes there are moments, when we find understanding. We often play „Monopoly“ or others games together. Sometimes mum joins us. There is one very interesting thing: when we, I and my brother, split with mother, we unite and are angry about her together. But it’s a very rare thing. What is more, I can’t stand when usually mother, or other family members get into my business, when I don’t want it. It irritates me very much. But it’s normal and in each family there are only some bad and more good things. So, although, there are some negative things, I still love my family very much!

School relationship

Some questions to answer and review 1. How often do you hurt or upset someone in order to go along with the crowd? 2. How often do you do something that makes you feel bad about yourself just because other people want you to do it? 3. How often do you do something that you know is dangerous just because other people want you to do it? 4. How often do you damage other people’s property for fun with your friends? 5. How often do you lie to your parents because that’s what your friends want you to do?How often do you help a classmate to cheat in a test or exam at school? Our answers lead to the conclusions. Conclusions are like that… In our school most teenagers don’t feel peer pressure. Most teenagers don’t do something bad or dangerous just because other people want them to do it… Also it is good that in our school teenagers have good friends who can help them to cheat in a test or exam at school. Regrettably that in our school there are some teenagers that don’t have self respect and even feel peer pressure…

Questions

How we spend our weekends & other free time We have completed a questionnaire at our school. We inquired 32 students from 5th to 12th class. This way we have discovered lots of students free time activities, school life & other preferences.

Lets start from the main thing. To the question „Are you waiting for your weekend?“ 9 from 10 children answered yes & just 1 said no (a very interesting child…). Most of the enquired students did their homework for about 2 hours, the minority said, that they usually did it just about one hour. Then we asked, „What are you doing during the weekend or in the other free time?” Most of all students said, that they often watched TV, listened to music, did other pastime or just relaxed from school & lessons. Also, most of the students said, that they liked active games, such as basketball, football, swimming, horse riding & so on… Many children help parents in farm work, household or family business. That’s how it should be! Now about books! Our students like books, most love stories, comics, horror, adventures & other literature. Half of the students we have enquired, at home have about 50 books and about 3-5 books get or buy per year. Students visit our school library usually for making references or for taking a book to read. Also we had asked, „ What would you do, if you had a possibility, in your free time?” Many students answered, that they would go to the cinema, to café, to a shopping center or to dance in the club. However, students & now have many others gaieties. They answered, that they about 1-5 times per year visit the cinema, luxuriate watching plays in the theatre & recreate in the concerts. Alike they often go camping & not so often travel around the Lithuania. For interest, we asked „ Which week day do you like most?” To this question 9 from 10 students answered that Friday is the day trhey like best. Wonder, why? Well I bet, because in the Friday afternoon, after school students turn to simple children. Then they can rest, do their favorite hobbies, watch TV, play with computer… Students said, that they usually watched about 5 films in weekends, while in weekdays just 1 or 2 films per day. In these modern times, when technologies conquer the world, the mobile phone is a necessity (at least it seems so). Students also have & use them very „ actively“. They answered, that they usually used mobile phones to send & get messages (sms). We asked, „How many (approximately) messages do you send/get per day/“. The answers varied from 5 to 500 messages per day … That’s all that we wanted to tell you about our free time activities. We expect that you were reading about it with interest.

Conflicts with the parents

I usually argue with my patents, because we look at life differently. We argue for many reasons, that are for telephone, clothes, homework and school studies. My parents are very strict, so we contradict very often. Firstly, my parents say that I waste my time meeting friends though I enjoy talks with them. Secondly, they say that it is not nice to wear jeans at school; still lots of my friends wear them. Finally, we quarrel a lot about the homework and school studies. Mama and dad say that I have to spend more time for studying. However; I think I do my best and study enough.

My village

My countryside in Daulėnai is a great place to visit, because it is a small ancient village and there is a big forest around. In Daulėnai there are two streets and 20 houses. There live about 80 people. The people are funny and lazy. In forest there live dog-wolves, snakes, foxes. In forest there are many strawberries and bilberries. There people grow potatoes, carrots and other vegetables. People have got cows, pigs and chickens. 2 km away from Daulėnai there is Norviliškės just by the Belarus boarder. Although only a monastery is usually mentioned, but its origin comes from the times of Renaissance. In the 16th century the Norviliškės homestead belonged to Vatiekus and Dorota Šorčas, and in 1617 the young widow transferred the buildings to Franciscan Minorite order. In the beginning of the 17th century a monastery was constructed there, after the model of Mitchyn Dolny castle in the High Tatras, Slovakia; a wooden church was built next to the monastery. In 1832 eight monks lived in the Norviliškės monastery- four from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and four from the Kingdom of Poland. Regretfully, the monastery fell into the list of objects to close, and the premises were rearranged into barracks for Tsar soldiers. The church was taking apart, and an Orthodox church was built of its materials in some other place. In 1918 the monastery and the belfry were arranged for the rectory; finally, 1928 the present-day church was built.

Music preferences

We have questioned a group of school-children from 14 to 16 years what kind of music and singer or band do they like. Firs issue in our survey is about a language which the song is performed. The most of investigated school-children usually listen to English and Lithuanian music. Some of questioned children like to listen to Russian music. Second issue is about music stile. Almost half of surveyed school-children usually listen to pop music. Most of the rest of the questioned children like to listen ti hip-hop or rap music, while the others of surveyed children usually listen to disco or rock music. The third issue is about favourite singer or band. The most favourite performer is Eminem. Many of questined children like Shakira, Pink and Lithuanian band 69 Danguje (69 in heaven). Some of questioned children like Russian pop duet TATU and Liethuanian singer Jurga and Lithuanian bands G&G Sindikatas and Skamp. The paradox is that the favourite kind of music is pop, but the favourite performer is rapper Eminem. We think that it is becouse they haven’t a big choice of other music stiles, becouse this music is the most available on TV, radio and discos.

Hello, my name is Valentina. I am 16 year old. I live in Dieveniškes. My favourite free time activity is listening to music. I listen to romantic, pop, club, classic, rock, sad, lovely, cheerful and East music. I always listen to music according to my mood. I enjoy listening ‘Aerosmith’ and ‘Alcazar’. I usually listen to ‘Aerosmith’. ‘Don’t You Cry Tonight’ is their best song. ’Aerosmith’ songs are very beautiful and cheerful. Seven years ago, when I was nine, I tried playing piano, but I failed to do it. I enjoy dancing, so every Friday I go to school dance. I sometimes go to a concert with my best friend. I don’t like singing because I haven’t got voice. I usually listen to music in the morning and in the evening; sometimes I enjoy it during dinner. Well, my friends and me have made a survey and we are going to present results to you. Our topic is music and dance preferences. Love, Valentina.

Ieva Rūta

Aloha, my name is Ieva Rūta Šedytė. I’m 15 years old. I live in Šaltiniai, on the left of Dieveniškes. My favorite free time activity is listening to music, and, further on, I’m going to discuss it with you. I like to listen to different music like rock, pop and clubmusic, because it makes me feel good. Usually I like listening to the club music. It’s very light. The beat of my heart merges with the rhythm of this music. It relaxes me. There are few words and a lot of rhythm in club music, so I can relax and have pleasure. I listen to rock music when I’m angry or have a good mood. Usually I listen to rock music very loudly. When I hear loud drum and bass guitar music, I merge with it and pour out my good emotions or my anger. I usually listen to pop music when I want to listen to light music and to sing, because words and melody are easy to memorize. So, I couldn’t imagine my life without music. It’s like weather, which is necessary for my life. Next time I am going to write about music which is popular between my peers. Write you soon, Ieva Rūta

Rūta

Hey, my name is Rūta Česiulytė. I’m from Kaziuliai, not far from Dievenishkes. My favourite activities are music, TV, computer… I am going to discuss with you the weekends and free time activities of my friends, and now here are some facts about me. I am a schoolgirl, so I have to work hard studying from Monday to Friday. And it’s normal, that weekends are the most welcome thing I wait for in a school year, because then my true life begins. My weekend starts on Fridays, after shool. Then I can relax and feel pleasant. My favourite occupation is meeting my friends. When we are together, we spend our freetime duing something interesting and fun. We usually go for a walk, play various games or just talk, listen to music or watch tv. When I feel lazy and don’t want to be between people, I just fall on bed and read magazines or books. Then I forget all problems and cares. Sometimes, when I want to be in the open air, I work in the garden or in the parterre. Also, I play basketball or football with my brother and my puppy. However, there are things, that I must do on my weekends. I must help my mum in houshold and clean my room. As a tradition, I bake a pie on Sunday. But the end comes to everything, also to weekends. So on Sunday evenings I must do my homework & go to bed earlier, because tomorrow would be Monday, and I must go to shool. Next time I will tell you about my friends freetime preferances. I hope to hear from you soon Rūta

Here we are!

Hello Friends!
These are our short introductions. Each member presents her/his description of oneself and the topic. The preferances do not mean students will choose them for a concrete theme.
